Brought to you by Wondercafe.ca and First United Church, the Paint Your Faith project will be hitting the city of Vancouver with a 13' x 130' mural at 55-57 W. Hastings Street, across from the Woodwards Building. This time around, the four internationally acclaimed aerosol artists working as a collective to express their unique and unified interpretation of faith will be Faith47 from South Africa, Titi Freak from Brazil, Peeta from Italy and Vancouver's own Indigo.

For seven days, these artists will take a blank wall and turn it into their own personal canvas, creating a piece of art that will change the Vancouver landscape and open discourse for what faith, spirituality and art is really about.

To learn more about the artists click on any of their images or visit our artist section.

Faith47: Greetings…

April 6th, 2010

so Vancouver should be interesting… ive not been to canada and am keen to find out what its all about… also the theme… ive had very little faith in my life.. and my lack of faith is what inspires most of my work… my wondering what this life is about.. why humans are such destructive creatures… i cant believe in evil and good/ heaven and hell.. its too simple.. i think there are alot of grey areas.. so much unseen and mystery in life.. that is what inspires me … the vast openness of space its unanswerable questions… and that we are all the victim and the perpetrator… and that the first part of knowing… might be acknowledging that you dont know… or something like that… at least… i really dont know… what this life is about… i can only take it day by day and look for ways of understanding in my direct surroundings and experiences…

Interesting thoughts Faith, does the heaven or hell scenario promote the absurd proposition that humans are either all good or all bad? A simple case of either black or white with nothing in between?

  3. Starlight says:

Here’s the answer from a priest that recently had this discussion with me: “Every person has good in them, it is for the individual person to allow it to surface. It is not black and white. Heaven and Hell both exist. Each of us are judged on everything we do, all of us Priests included have committed sin at some point in their lives and still do unwittingly. It is recognising ourselves, that we have done these things wrong and put them right. Some people that have committed terrible wicked acts of violence can still find it in their hear to be repentant and they will be judged accordingly. A good example maybe to watch the film Scarlet and Black this was based on a true story.”

  4. Flexwheel says:

Scarlet and Black? Never heard of it…wher eis this ‘priest’ from?

  5. Marshal says:

“The Scarlet and the Black” is a 1983 made for TV movie starring Gregory Peck and Christopher Plummer. It is about an Irish priest that goes against all odds, even the church, to do what is right.

  6. Giovanni Tutto says:

Discussing such a deep subject demands a little light discussion, check out this recipe called ‘Heaven & Hell Cauliflower Pasta’ – http://www.amateurgourmet.com/2010/01/heaven_hell_cau.html

  7. Deloris C. says:

If you are religious then life’s purpose is to be judged and move on to heaven. Simple.

  8. Mistikal says:

It seems that the purpose, day to day, is to accomplish the tasks set by our human-created society. If your job is to wash dishes, then the point to life is to scrub and polish. But doesnt it feel like our efforts are worthless?

  9. Nero says:

Yoiu need FAITH my friend, that’s the whole point

  10. Monica Dempsey says:

dudette, thats a very good question, i think the whole point is to try to strive to be one or the other be it good or evil ;-) you know what I’ve chosen!

  11. Gwen says:

Maybe you can’t find an answer because their is no point to life?

  12. Aphilipe says:

Faith, I see that you are somewhat lost, I would love to take this journey with you. Please post here regularly so that I can also share in the experience :-)

  13. Emily Ross says:

  17. Lorena Krause says:

Art affects and creates profound transformations of humans and collective consciousness. It is also through powerful visual images like the ones in this “,Paint your Faith”, that we can understand the relationship of individuals and civic involvement that helps one to shape and define the conditions of one’s life.
Thanks for doing this and keep the faith on this journey of
challenges expressing wonders on great depictions.
